About

I spend my time these days living in Tokyo.

Thanks for stopping by and saying hello.

My Interests…

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY:
Artists, researchers, inventors, companies… I am fascinated by the many different ways to express creativity and the need to protect these expressions. Recently, I have been working with KOYAMA & ASSOCIATES in Chiyoda-ku. Please check out their website, especially if you need intellectual property protection in Japan.

FOOD:
One of the most basic of human urges is the urge to consume food.  People in Tokyo often ask me what I think about natto or uni or other “difficult” Japanese foods.  I usually respond that they are OK but there are far too many foods that I find delicious (tebasaki, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, etc.) in the world than to focus on the difficult ones. But I must admit, that I have had a very enjoyable uni recently.  The unfortunate thing with uni is that unless it is fresh, you can get a certain unpleasant taste that is a by-product of decomposition.
I love eating in fun restaurants.  What do I mean by fun? There are a number of restaurants in Tokyo that I really think are absolutely wonderful.  However, sometimes the atmosphere is more important than the flavor. After all, good food requires atmosphere to make it perfect.  I also enjoy kitschy or weird places. I will from time to time talk about my favorite places in my blog.
I recently went to the Kiuchi Brewery near Mito to brew my own beer.  It was great fun and I learned a lot about beer and Nihon shu as well. Check out the blog for more info in a couple of days.

MUSIC:
I am a fan of the Beatles.  That said, I will listen to nearly anything once.  Some of my other favorite artists include Fountains of Wayne and Lloyd Cole.  I also really like a number of Japanese bands. Two Tokyo bands that I really think deserve greater exposure are Winnie and Tokyo Polichika. Maybe check out their web pages when you have the time.  Better yet, check out one of their shows if happen to be in Tokyo.

I also like to play guitar and do so from time to time. Maybe I will post some old music somewhere on this page for your enjoyment.

THE INTERNET:
Hmmm…  There’s really not much I can say about that one that hasn’t already been said, so I will spare you my musings. ;-)
